Company Background

The EMD factory in Halstead, Essex

EMD was founded in 1958 to manufacture AC motors and supplied customers such as Qualcast (lawn mowers) and Hotpoint (hairdryers). In the 1970s, a range of DC motor and gearboxes were introduced for the battery powered Leisure market (golf trolleys and buggies) and Mobility market (wheelchairs).

Today, EMD is a progressive company that still manufactures in the UK to provide a flexible, short leadtime and high quality products and service to our customers; however, by sourcing components from low cost countries, we are able to offer cost-effective product.

EMD supplies the caravan (movers), golf (trolleys and buggies), mobility (wheelchairs and stairlifts), sport and Leisure (clay pigeon traps), industrial (floor cleaners) and medical (massage beds and chairs) markets.

Our mission is to be the most responsive, customer orientated, European supplier of fractional HP DC drive systems.
