Choose a product
Once you have viewed our product pages or seen our units in action in the field, you will have an idea of if we make the type of units you require.
Please contact us now so we can offer our best advice and experience to lead you to the ideal motor / gearbox and drive solution. We suggest you email sales@emd.co.uk or telephone the Technical Sales desk 0044 1787 473461. Some likely questions they will ask-
What voltage DC are you operating at?
(12V or 24V are typical for battery operated applications, but we can wind motors to run up to 240V DC)
Load?
Examples
the weight of the vehicle the torque required to turn a pulley)
Speed?
Examples
how fast will the vehicle travel (mph), the speed of the conveyor (m/sec) or how fast does the shaft need to turn in rev/min)
Environment?
Examples
Factory,
Hospital,
Golf course
Terrain?
Examples
Flat concrete floor,
Steep muddy track
Duty?
Examples
Continuous running, intermittent eg. 10 mins running then resting for 10 mins.
Size restrictions?
Any maximum length, height or width or weight?
Drive side?
Single, double or hollow shaft exit?
Axial or Radial loads?
Example
Pump operation,
Distance of wheel from gearbox bearing
Typical Equations we use to calculate the size of unit required:
Torque (Nm) = 9.55 x Power (Watts) / Speed (rev/min)
Power in Watts Approx = Voltage (V) x Current (Amps )
Sometimes it is better to see the application first hand. One of our Sales Engineers can visit you if required.
Quoting
Our prices are generally discounted as the quantity you order increases. However, by quoting each enquiry, rather than issuing a price list, we can take into account the potential of your business to grow, enabling us to offer a keen price for relatively small volumes. We will suggest ways of reducing costs by using standard components wherever possible.
Ordering
You can order any quantity from 10 off units, in batch sizes to suit your production.
We will send you an outline drawing of the unit, for you to approve before we start production, so you can see exactly what you are getting.
Once we have your approval we will send you an acknowledgement with an expected despatch date and a copy of our terms and conditions.
We plan our production around a four week lead-time. If you need your goods quicker, speak to Lyn in customer services, she will do her best to help. For large volumes we can also operate “just in time” deliveries.
Payment
Like most companies, our standard payment terms are 30 days from date of invoice, if you have a credit account with us. If you don't, we can accept payment in advance by cheque, BACS or credit card.
Delivery
We can deliver worldwide by road, sea or air. Goods are supplied in foam packed cardboard boxes, on pallets when appropriate. For our high volume shipments we use returnable crates.
After Sales
Our products are covered by a standard 18 month warranty against manufacturing defects. The first four digits serial label on the unit will help us identify the production date, for example 07 05 xxxxxx is a unit made in May 2007.
Our returns department will be able to test units and answer any queries.
Consumable spares, such as brushes, brush holders and couplings can be supplied from stock.
